The path leading west out of New Hearth onto Route 225 starts out just as lush and pleasant as the routes leading deeper into the eastern portion of the region. Grasslands fading into golden fields of wheat and barley - food crops - flank a small two-lane highway that connects New Hearth with Firebug City. As when you leave out east, the wind brushes the landscape faintly. It is beautiful, and it is... vast.
But the closer you get to those jagged, imposing forms on the horizon, the more the grass starts to give way, becoming thinner until it fades to faint scrub grasses and those plants hardy enough to survive the dry east side of the mountains. The highway turns left before it would hit the mountain range, and the quality of the pavement decreases - it is cracked in places and far from a smooth ride one way or another.
Bird Pokemon ply the air currents in search of scarce pray, as one cannot easily consume a Geodude. The local Diglett are a cautious lot - popping out of the ground at the wrong time could mean being pulled free and devoured. Rock and ground Pokemon are plentiful here, and are a frequent acquisition on the way to Firebug.
As you come around to the far side of the mountain range, though, the vegetation returns, and on the horizon you can see... the forest.
