The rules may change from time to time to accomodate new situations as they arise or better deal with current situations. Keep informed of them, please.
General Rules[/u]
1. This is not a censored board. I don't personally think profanity is going to hurt anyone over the age of 13, and I don't feel like censoring speech is a way to encourage conversation. So, if cursing bothers you, I apologize, but this might not be the best forum for you.
2. However, racially, sexually, or otherwise discriminatory or hate speech is not, under any circumstances, allowed. This is a friendly RP forum for people of all sorts who happen to like writing and Pokemon to come together and enjoy themselves, not a place for you to air out your personal prejudices. Please control what you say.
Rule 3: If you're under thirteen, get off my forum. This is a ProBoards policy, but it bears repeating, because I don't want to have to deal with extremely minor minors: I don't want anyone under thirteen on my forum. If I found out you're under thirteen and using this forum, I will ban you.
Rule 4: Don't be an asshat. Seriously. I will hand out warnings and temp/perm bans if I have to, because I want to keep this place functioning without too much of the board on fire at any one point in time. I want the community to be... well, not exactly close-knit, though that would be nice, but amicable and approachable. We don't attract new players easily if we all look like a bunch of asshats, and then the board stagnates, eh?
Rule 5: Admin overlord clause. Any situation that comes up requiring staff attention will default to the staff's judgement, and they're expected to be intelligent in how they exercise that judgement. If it isn't covered by the rules and the staff has to make a ruling on it, then what that staff says goes.
If you have a problem with a staff-member's decision, bring it up with them first. If you can't get a satisfactory answer, bring it to someone who outranks them - A GMod if you're dealing with a mod, an Admin if you're dealing with a GMod, and me if you can't get a satisfactory result out of the rest of us. We'll do our best to come to the best possible answer, but you might not always get the outcome you wanted.
IC Rules[/u]
Rule 1. There is an actual system in place for play on Slate, so godmodding and the like is far less likely - it's not in the mechanics. That said, if you try and cheat the system, we will catch you and beat you with sticks and Warnings. Try and cheat too many times and you're liable to see yourself sitting on the end of a ban ban.
Rule 2. Your character is human. There is no "pokemon" play on Slate, nor is there the option to play things like Pokemorphs. I'm sorry, but you're limited to a human here. Furthermore, playing a wild pokemon would carry with it complications such as... well, being catchable by other players. So yeah, only human characters.
Rule 3. Pokemon are not humans by another form. This means that they do not have an understandable language, and you cannot learn it. They are intelligent, extremely so by animal terms, but they are still animals. This is what makes those who can pick up emotional clues from their pokemon and get "close" to their wavelengths such skilled trainers (and why Empath Psychics are so in tune with their Pokemon) - it's not normal to be able to understand them on that level.
Rule 4. All characters on Slate are original. If recognizeable characters from the games or manga are brought in, they will be NPCs run by the staff collectively, like almost every other NPC out there. When you make a character, it's expected the character will be a creation from your mind, not someone else's - blatant rip-offs are grounds for application refusal.
Rule 5. This is still a PG-13 board. I don't care what you do in messengers or whatever, but if you want to RP explicit sex and that sort of thing, kindly keep it off this board. Providing sexually explicit material knowingly to minors is very illegal, and morally reprehensible beyond, and I won't have anything to do with that sort of thing. Beyond that, it's just not the sort of thing people generally want to see out in public spaces.
Rule 6. This is more of a cautioning. Non-official battles are neither sanctioned, nor (generally) regulated. Slate takes inspiration from the Pokemon Special manga (which you should read if you haven't yet) and therefore, non-official battles function a bit... differently than you might imagine. Pokemon in the wild and in non-sanctioned battles can target trainers, and battles can end up injurious or even downright fatal. Not to mention attacking Pokeballs specifically. If you get into a fight outside of battle leagues and gym battles, or outside of cities, be prepared.
